Worked example

With the defaults (fictional): $10,000 account, 1% risk ($100), buy at $50 with a $48 stop ($2 per share). Risk allows 50 shares, but the 10% cap allows only $1,000 ÷ $50 = 20 shares. You buy 20 shares with $40 at risk. A 2% daily limit is $200, or five full-stop losses. At 75% of the limit used the status reads CLOSE; at 100%, FUSE HIT.

Read the full explanation in Position sizing with a fixed % risk, or download the free Risk-Fuse Calculator spreadsheet.

More sizing, journal and review tools are in Journal & Risk; checklists and plan templates are in Planning & Routine.

Stops can gap or slip, so real losses can be larger than the calculation. Education only. Not advice.

FAQ

How does the calculator decide the share count?

It works out shares by risk ((account × risk %) ÷ |entry − stop|) and shares by your position cap (account × cap % ÷ entry), rounds both down and uses the smaller one.

Does it store my numbers?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is saved.

Is this advice on how much to risk?

No. The defaults are only an example. Choose limits that fit your own money and plan.
